Phase II: Full Liquids (10 days to 2 weeks after surgery)
Phase I:
Clear Liquids | Phase
II: Full Liquids | Phase
III: Pureed Foods
This phase of the diet progression will
be started after your first post-op visit
with your surgeon. During this phase, you
want to concentrate on staying hydrated
(64 to 96 oz fluid each and every day) and
meeting your protein needs. Your Registered
Dietitian will help you determine your protein
needs.
Here are some guidelines to follow for this
phase:
- Certain foods are added back in as
options for meals:
- Fat free or 1% milk
- Unsweetened cooked instant cereals
- Low sodium vegetable juice
- Low fat soup bases (no chunks;
it must be strained)
- A protein supplement is also added
in to help you meet your protein goals.
It is very important to meet your protein
goals each and every day!
- Start using meal times, making time
for 4 meals per day. Meals should be 3
to 4 hours apart.
- Continue drinking clear liquids throughout
the day to stay hydrated.
